It’s safe to say that the people behind television networks may be the laziest and least creative people in the world. It’s been years since a show hit TV that was anywhere near groundbreaking. It’s unfortunate enough that most of the programming on TV is reality based, but what’s even worse is that most of the shows we see in North America are just spinoffs of popular European shows. One of the least creative networks in the history of television has to be MTV and if you don’t believe me just check out their new reality show “From G’s to Gents.”
The premise of “From G’s to Gents” is to take 14 street thugs or as MTV likes to call them rough-around-the-edges- young men and groom them in to gentlemen. However, not everyone makes it and at the end one last gentleman is left standing with a new identity and a check for $100,000. Who is in charge of grooming these classless individuals in the gentlemen you may ask? It’s none other than Fonzworth Bentley, a guy that became famous for holding P. Diddy’s umbrella. Sure Bentley has a flair for fashion but what gentleman works as a personal assistant for someone? That isn’t very classy.
The most annoying part about this show may be the “G’s.” Picture 14 uneducated, egotistical guys talking in slang… and then picture the headache you would suffer from after actually watching these “G’s” try to out ghetto each other. The show teaches these guys how to dress and how to speak; however, the show is two episodes in and not very much progress has been made.
With all the negatives being mentioned, the show is hilarious to watch. It’s annoying and so many things that these guys do irritates the hell out of me but I can’t change the channel when it’s on. When “Creepa” references his “hater blockers” (dark sunglasses so haters can’t see his eyes) I laugh like I did when I was 7 and somebody said penis. Is this a horrible show? Yes, but in an oddly entertaining way, so you’re going to have to watch it and see what you get out of it. Maybe some of you will learn ho to be a gentleman.
